Getting Rid Of Acne With Laser Acne Treatment

It is estimated that more than 20 million people – including both teenagers and adults – suffer from some form of acne. While some of these people will experience satisfactory results using one or more of the acne medications or treatment products available today, the reality is that many will not. For them, a more effective treatment option is needed. For them, the right choice just might be laser acne treatment.

Laser acne treatment is an FDA approved procedure that has proven to be very effective for patients who have undergone the treatment. There are generally no serious side effects or complications associated with the procedure, and pain and discomfort is kept to a minimum. This has made acne laser treatment one of the most popular treatment options available today, especially among those suffering from more serious and chronic acne.

Laser acne treatments involve the application of a low level laser beam to the areas of the skin where severe acne is present. The laser beam targets the sebaceous glands; these are the glands that secrete the oil that clogs the pores of the skin and causes acne to break out. The heat from the laser beam works to prevent these glands from over-producing oil, thus eliminating – or at least greatly reducing – future breakouts.

Oily skin is not the only factor that leads to acne, however. Bacteria can contribute to acne episodes as well. Acne laser treatment also destroys this acne causing bacteria, resulting in noticeable improvement to the skin after just one treatment.

As I mentioned above, there are no lasting serious side effects or complications associated with laser treatment for acne. Some mild and temporary side effects might include skin irritation, redness and swelling. There is a minimal amount of pain and discomfort associated with these side effects, but nothing to worry about.

The biggest disadvantage to laser acne treatment is its cost. Not only is it among the most expensive acne treatments, but many health insurance plans do not cover it. If you can afford it, however, there is no shortage of satisfied patients who will tell you it is well worth the price.

Using Proactiv For Getting Rid Of Acne

Proactiv is a very popular medication for getting rid of acne and when our daughter became a teenager and got acne we bought it. It was recommended by my sisters and worked well on their daughter’s faces. It cleared their acne. They felt that it would help my daughter as well. My daughter’s friends also recommended Proactive.

The saleswoman recommended that she use it gradually and this is what she did. But in a few days her face started getting red. She stopped using the medication but the redness would not go away, and it started to itch and burn. After a few days we decide to bring her in to see the doctor. It was too strong for her. Her doctor felt that the skin irritation was so bad that she sent her to a specialist. The skin specialist made her take medication and only use Centaphil for her face. It took a month or two before her skin when back to normal. The whole ordeal was hard for my daughter. It was her first year of high school and she was trying to make new friends. She felt very uncomfortable about the entire situation.

It has been two years now and she does what the specialist recommended. She controls her diet and knows which foods give her acne. Because of her sensitive skin, she is unable to use Proactiv. I would suggest parents to be careful when allowing their children to use this product. If your children have reaction to a little bit of it, discontinue use immediately and see your doctor. A lot of teenagers love this product and it works for them. But there are a few teenagers, like my daughter, who will get an adverse reaction to it. When using a new product use it gradually and cautiously.

After a while you will figure out if Proactiv will help your child or not. It is a hard time for them and there is a great deal of peer pressure, but what might work for their best friend might not work for them.
